Automatic Grade Computation for Subjects with Sub-Classes

Overview

Starting in Version 11.4.0, Grado can automatically compute final grades based on encoded grade items.

When enabled:

• Final grades are calculated by the system
• Manual final grade encoding is disabled
• Computation follows DepEd grading rules

This applies to:

• General subjects
• Subjects with component classes such as MAPEH and ALIVE (with sub-class averaging)

Availability

• Available for LIS-mode instances only
• Applies to both:
  • Faculty Portal
  • Admin Portal

How to Enable

1. Go to Admin Portal → School Settings
2. Enable Auto Compute Final Grade

💡 Note: Enabling this setting disables manual final grade encoding in the Grade Sheet.

Key Behavior (When Enabled)

General Subjects

When auto-compute is enabled:

• Final grade fields are read-only (parent and child classes)
• Grade item encoding for parent classes is disabled
• Final grades are automatically computed once all required grade items are complete
• Applies to both:
  • Faculty Portal
  • Admin Portal
• Applies to grades updated through the Change Grade module

Computation formula:

All computations are logged, including the triggering user action.

To illustrate for MAPEH Subject:

The MAPEH subject is composed of sub-classes (e.g., Music, Arts, P.E., Health).

When auto-compute is enabled:

• No separate setting is required for MAPEH
• MAPEH parent class grades are automatically averaged from sub-classes
• Computation runs when all sub-class grade items for a quarter are complete
• If sub-class grades are incomplete, parent values remain blank
• Works regardless of the number of sub-classes configured

Additional behavior:

• Manual MAPEH grade submission is disabled
• Faculty and Admins cannot override computed values

Important Behavior

⚠️ Existing manual grades will be overwritten

If MAPEH grades were manually encoded before enabling this feature:

• Any update to sub-class grades will recompute and overwrite parent values
• Previous manual entries are not preserved

Recommendation:
Enable this setting before grade encoding begins for the term.
